Every child develops at their own pace, so delays or differences don’t always mean autism. A child who is not autistic typically meets communication and social milestones within expected age ranges. They may make eye contact, respond to their name, use gestures like pointing or waving, and show interest in playing or interacting with others.
In contrast, signs of autism may include limited eye contact, repetitive behaviors, speech delays, or difficulty understanding social cues. However, these signs alone don’t confirm a diagnosis. Only a qualified professional, such as a developmental pediatrician or psychologist, can determine if your child is on the autism spectrum through a thorough evaluation.
If you’re unsure, seeking an early developmental assessment is the best step. Even if your child isn’t autistic, evaluations can identify other areas where extra support might help them thrive.
At Epic Minds ABA, we provide guidance and early intervention services with ABA Therapy in North Carolina to help families in their home to better understand their child’s development and build the skills needed for success.
