ABA therapy in New Mexico

New Mexico families, meet Epic Minds.

In-home ABA therapy, BCBA-designed for your child and delivered where they already feel at ease. New Mexico has some of the strongest autism coverage in the country and some of the fewest providers in it. We’re here to close a bit of that gap, whether you’re in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, or three hours from either.

Why New Mexico families choose Epic Minds

What families tell us matters most

You don't always need a diagnosis first

New Mexico Medicaid funds ABA for children between 12 and 36 months who are at documented risk of autism, before a diagnosis is confirmed. Very few states do this. If your pediatrician has raised a concern and you've been told to wait and see, call us instead.

We reach the parts of the state with almost no providers

New Mexico has around 234 board certified behavior analysts for the whole state, 42nd in the country per head. Thirty two of the thirty three counties are health professional shortage areas. Because we work in homes and by telehealth, we aren't limited to Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

Coverage here is unusually strong

Since 2019, New Mexico law has required health plans to cover ABA with no age limit and no annual or lifetime dollar cap, including state and public school employee plans. If you were told years ago that your benefits had run out, the rules have changed.

ABA therapy services available in New Mexico

Six ways to bring Epic Minds into your family's life

In-home ABA therapy

Sessions at your home, on your schedule. Your child learns where they live, and skills built in that setting transfer faster. Sessions typically run two to four hours.

Autism assessment and diagnosis

Diagnostic waits in New Mexico are long. We work with a diagnostic partner offering virtual evaluations, with most families scheduled within two to three weeks.

Telehealth ABA therapy

For families in Gallup, Farmington, Hobbs, Clovis, and the many communities a long drive from any clinic, telehealth keeps therapy consistent.

School Collaboration

We coordinate with school teams across the state, including Albuquerque Public Schools, Las Cruces, Rio Rancho, Gallup-McKinley County, Gadsden, Santa Fe, and Farmington.

Parent and caregiver training

Your BCBA works with you, not just your child, so progress keeps moving between sessions.

Community-based ABA

Skills have to hold up at the store, the park, and family gatherings. Community sessions practice those moments in real settings.

ABA therapy insurance coverage in New Mexico

We sort your insurance before day one

Accepted in New Mexico:

New Mexico Medicaid has been called Turquoise Care since July 2024. ABA is covered from 12 months through 21 as part of EPSDT, organized in three stages, with prior authorization renewed every six months. We handle all of it.

If you’re enrolled in a Pueblo, an Apache tribe, or the Navajo Nation, Medicaid managed care enrollment is voluntary — you can stay in fee for service Medicaid instead of joining a Turquoise Care plan, and you can switch at any time. (Members receiving long-term care services must enroll in managed care.)

ABA therapy FAQs for New Mexico families

Before you call, here's what most families ask

My toddler hasn't been diagnosed. Is it too early to call?

No. New Mexico Medicaid funds ABA for children between 12 and 36 months at documented risk of autism, before a diagnosis is confirmed. Early beats waiting.

How long is the wait for an autism evaluation here?

Long, through the main public clinics. That's why we work with a diagnostic partner offering virtual evaluations, with most families scheduled within two to three weeks.

Do you offer services in Spanish?

Tell us what language is spoken at home when you call and we'll tell you what we can match.

We live on tribal land. How does that work?

If you're tribally enrolled, Medicaid managed care is voluntary — you can stay in fee for service Medicaid instead of joining a Turquoise Care plan, and you can switch at any time. We arrange services either way. Call us and we'll walk through it.

Are your behavior analysts licensed in New Mexico?

New Mexico doesn't license behavior analysts separately. What matters here is BACB board certification and enrollment as a New Mexico Medicaid provider. Ours hold both.

Does insurance cover ABA therapy here?

Usually, yes. Since 2019 New Mexico law has required coverage with no age limit and no dollar cap, including public employee plans. Self-funded employer plans sit outside state law, and we'll check yours.

Do you coordinate with our school district?

Yes, across New Mexico. Tell us before an IEP meeting is scheduled rather than after.
