ABA therapy in Maryland

Maryland families, meet Epic Minds.

In-home ABA therapy, BCBA-designed for your child and delivered at home, at school, or over video. Maryland has some of the best autism resources in the country and some of the longest waits attached to them. We’re built to start quickly, from Baltimore down through the Washington suburbs and out to the counties in between.

Why Maryland families choose Epic Minds

What families tell us matters most

ABA and the Autism Waiver are two different things

This is the single most common confusion we hear from Maryland families. The Autism Waiver has a registry and a wait, and it does not provide ABA. ABA is covered separately for Medicaid members under 21 as a state plan benefit. You don't need a waiver slot, and a lot of families sitting on that registry don't know it.

Our analysts hold Maryland licenses

Maryland has licensed behavior analysts through the State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists since 2015. A Licensed Behavior Analyst here needs BCBA certification, a master's degree, and a background check. National certification on its own doesn't permit practice in Maryland. Ours hold both.

We start without a waiting list

Our ABA services run through Maryland Medicaid's behavioral health administrator rather than through a waiver slot. Call us and we'll tell you where you actually stand.

ABA therapy insurance coverage in Maryland

We sort your insurance before day one

Accepted in New Mexico:

Maryland covers ABA for Medicaid members under 21 as part of EPSDT. The state carves behavioral health out of its HealthChoice managed care plans, so ABA is authorized and paid through Maryland’s behavioral health administrator rather than through your MCO. Authorizations run up to 180 days and we handle the renewals.

On commercial plans, Maryland law requires habilitative coverage including ABA for children under 19, with no dollar cap and a floor of up to 25 hours a week from 18 months to 6 years and 10 hours a week from 6 to 19. ABA cannot be denied as experimental.

Military families at Fort Meade, Aberdeen Proving Ground, and elsewhere are usually covered through TRICARE’s Autism Care Demonstration, which has no annual or lifetime cap on ABA.

ABA therapy FAQs for Maryland families

Before you call, here's what most families ask

We're on the Autism Waiver registry. Do we have to wait for ABA?

No, and this trips a lot of families up. The Autism Waiver doesn't provide ABA. ABA is a separate Medicaid benefit for members under 21 and it doesn't depend on a waiver slot.

Are your behavior analysts licensed in Maryland?

Yes. Maryland requires a Licensed Behavior Analyst credential through the State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists on top of national BCBA certification.

Does insurance cover ABA therapy here?

Usually, yes. Maryland requires habilitative coverage including ABA for children under 19 with no dollar cap. Maryland Medicaid covers ABA under 21. We verify your specific plan.

We're a military family. Does TRICARE cover this?

Yes, through the Autism Care Demonstration, which has no annual or lifetime cap on ABA. Diagnosis has to come from an approved specialist. We can talk you through the referral.

What if my child hasn't been diagnosed yet?

We work with a diagnostic partner offering virtual evaluations, with most families scheduled within two to three weeks.

What areas does Epic Minds cover here?

We serve the Baltimore metro, the Washington suburbs, and the counties between. Call us to confirm your area.

Do you coordinate with our school district?

Yes, across all the major Maryland systems. Tell us before an IEP meeting is scheduled rather than after.
