ABA therapy in Alaska

Alaska families, meet Epic Minds.

In-home ABA therapy where we can drive to you, and telehealth where no road goes. Alaska has one of the widest gaps in the country between the children who need ABA and the analysts available to deliver it. We built our model around that problem rather than around a building.

Why Alaska families choose Epic Minds

What families tell us matters most

We're built for a state without roads

Around 82% of Alaska communities can't be reached by road, and 251 are served only by air. A clinic model doesn't work here. Ours is in-home where we can drive and telehealth where we can't, so families outside Anchorage and Fairbanks aren't an afterthought.

Our analysts hold Alaska licenses

Alaska licenses both behavior analysts and assistant behavior analysts through the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing. A license requires a master's degree, supervised fieldwork, the BACB exam, and a background check. National certification alone doesn't permit practice here.

Alaska Medicaid authorizes generously up front

The state allows up to 1,040 hours of adaptive behavior treatment in the initial six month period without further authorization. Once your child is approved, therapy gets properly going instead of stopping and starting around paperwork.

ABA therapy services available in Alaska

Six ways to bring Epic Minds into your family's life

In-home ABA therapy

Sessions at your home for families in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, and the Kenai Peninsula. Sessions typically run two to four hours.

Autism assessment and diagnosis

We work with a diagnostic partner offering virtual evaluations, with most families scheduled within two to three weeks. For families off the road system, that removes the flight.

Telehealth ABA therapy

For Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Bethel, and the villages, telehealth is how consistent therapy becomes possible at all.

School Collaboration

We coordinate with teams including Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Juneau, and Lower Kuskokwim school districts.

Parent and caregiver training

Built into your child's sessions, and especially important where a therapist can't be in the room every day.

Community-based ABA

Skills need to work at the store, the community center, and everywhere else life happens.

ABA therapy insurance coverage in Alaska

We sort your insurance before day one

Accepted in Alaska:

Alaska Medicaid covers ABA for members under 21. Denali KidCare is the state’s children’s health insurance program, covering children from birth through 18 along with pregnant women, subject to income. ABA requires an autism diagnosis, an assessment by a licensed behavior analyst, and prior authorization, which we handle.

On commercial plans, Alaska law requires coverage of autism diagnosis and treatment including ABA for people under 21, with no annual or lifetime dollar cap. Insurers are specifically barred from limiting the number of visits. Employers with 20 or fewer employees are exempt.

Military families at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Fort Wainwright, and elsewhere are generally covered through TRICARE’s Autism Care Demonstration.

ABA therapy FAQs for Alaska families

Before you call, here's what most families ask

We're not on the road system. Can you help us?

Yes, through telehealth, and it's a large part of why we're here. Tell us where you are and we'll tell you what we can and can't do from a distance.

Are your behavior analysts licensed in Alaska?

Yes. Alaska requires a state license through the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing on top of BACB certification.

How long will it take to start?

Once we have your insurance information and a diagnosis, we move as fast as authorization allows. Alaska Medicaid authorizes a substantial block of hours up front, so the start tends to be more solid than families expect.

What if my child hasn't been diagnosed yet?

We work with a diagnostic partner offering virtual evaluations, with most families scheduled within two to three weeks. For families off the road system, that avoids the cost of flying to Anchorage.

We're an Alaska Native family. How does this work alongside our tribal health provider?

We coordinate with tribal health organizations rather than working around them. Tell us who you see and we'll make the two fit together.

Does insurance cover ABA therapy here?

Usually, yes. Alaska law requires coverage for people under 21 with no dollar cap and no limit on visits. Alaska Medicaid and Denali KidCare both cover ABA.

Do you coordinate with our school district?

Yes, including Anchorage, Mat-Su, Fairbanks North Star, Kenai Peninsula, Juneau, and Lower Kuskokwim.
